In my humble opinion, the difference between a good actor and a great actor is their willingness to keep growing and challenging themselves to better roles as they move on in their careers. This applies specifically to Liam Neeson, who stars in the action-thriller “Non-Stop”. Is there enough in the movie to make it succeed? Hmm, possibly.

Liam Neeson stars as an old, beaten ex-cop who lost his daughter to leukemia as well as his desire to truly care about anyone or anything. We see him now as an air marshall, assigned to a flight going from New York to England. By hearing this, you would immediately think this is the typical stereo-type buildup for an action-movie (a la Schwarzenegger, Willis, or Stallone) and based on his past movies, Neeson would fit this mold having done “Taken”, “Unknown”, and even “The A-Team”. Yet this movie goes a step further. It places the action star in a who-done-it setting and it works marvelously! During the flight, he begins receiving text messages over his secure device, warning him that if $150 million dollars is not paid to an account, a passenger will die every 20 minutes. The movie turns into a thrilling mystery ride as Neeson tries to find which of the passengers is the threat while his character slowly changes from a loner to a leader who truly is the only one who cares about the passengers.

It would have been very easy for this movie to turn into a shoot out, big explosion movie but Neeson is now at a point in his career where he takes challenging roles and turns in a solid, believable performance. This movie leaves you on the edge of your seat and I recommend you go see this movie. Get ready and fasten them seat belts!
